Good, bad, worse, good

I've got some good news, some bad news, some worse news, and then some more good news.

The good news is that those skyrocketing unemployment numbers no longer include the likes of little ol' Jon Eric. I'm now once again gainfully employed 40 hours a week.

The bad news is that such gainful employment takes a lot of time away from me. Time that might be better spent recording music for you wonderful people. The solution, of course, would be for you to donate some cash to the Jon Eric fund, or buy my EP!

The worse news is that, in order to take the new job, I had to write to the Austin Live Music Academy and tell them that I am regrettably unable to attend this year's session.

There's a silver lining to all this, though, because I've spent my spare hours of the last couple of weeks cobbling together a new piece for you! It's from the Songfight title "Back to the Well," and it features Signboy on drums and your friendly neighborhood webmaster Spud on the bass!

It's currently up for consideration at Songfight (and if it's not when you read this, it will be in a few hours), so head on over and listen to some of the songs, and vote for the ones you like!

Also, as with "Get to You," I've written up a chord chart and posted it here.

Three new tracks!

It may not look like it, but I've been busy these last two weeks.

First off, if you purchased my EP, ...One Would Hope, you may have noticed a "Thank You" on the back to the Austin Live Music Academy. This was the organization to which the EP doubled as an audition, and I found out last week that I was accepted! I didn't update immediately because I then left immediately to play Songfight Live: Rock and Rocker in Spokane, WA. It was the ninth annual Songfight gathering, and my first.

I'll be sure to keep you updated when higher-quality audio and video becomes available, but you can start with this video feed, which was streamed live as the event happened, and is now available as an archive. My set starts just shy of thirty minutes into the video.

Finally, there's three new songs to show off today. Well, sort of new.

The first is a cover of a song by my fellow Songfighters The Nutwalls. It's called "Crossroads." I also had the priviledge of playing mandolin with Irwin and Mike Lamb (who now perform as Kasper) on the live version of this song, and that experience contributed to my decision to cover it here.

The second new song is a rerecording of "We Keep Them Alive," the track I did for Songfight back during February Album Writing Month. It features Steve Durand on horns, and I've redone the guitar and vocals, as well as remixed and remastered it. I hope you enjoy it.

The third is a rerecording of "St. Expedite," which you may recognize as the closing track from my 2004 Album-A-Day project, Teenager. This new version is completely rerecorded from the ground up, with a revised second verse and bridge as well. I think the new version is good enough to place on my upcoming full-length album, and I hope you agree.

Drop me a line and let me know what you think!
